Alabama Getaway is paired, almost without exception, with either Promised Land or Greatest Story. It's a great way to open a show with a bang. Don't get me wrong, the Jackstraw opener from the night before is really marvelous as well, but if the boys wanted to rock, this was a go to opener. I think they wanted to rock this night, there is a higher than normal bit of improvisational lyrics in the first set, particularly from Jerry who just seems to have a fire in his belly.

Besides, any show with a Candyman and a High Time is special in my book.

The first set was bit hit and miss for me but the pre-drum second set run is excellent with a super-fast Eyes common to the era. Jerry just rips it.

Standout versions of BE Women, LL Rain. Jerry really starts to let go with the fast driven noodling during
Samson and Eyes, which is stellar.

This is one of my all time favs! where to start? The mexacali is nice into a blackbird tease. But the Shakedown into Sampson then hightime is outstanding! But the estimated into eyes is unbelievable! Then a nice black peter.I may have to say one of the better ones! I would love to hear a challange

Another one of those sources and shows that really should be at about 4 1/2 stars. 4 for the performance, which is yet another example of the great run that was Fall 79. First Set smokes and the Second kicks it up a notch. Band is in the groove and doesn't waste a single note. Now the sound I'd have to give 5 stars. Clear and crispy. Phil is upfront and center, driving the train with great sound and depth. Good work on this one. Without a doubt worth a listen.
